Memory - RAM

Random Access Memory or RAM is hardware that allows non permanent storage of the working data. This data is lost when the computer is switched off. RAM is fitted directly on to the computers motherboard and is required for the operating system and programs to run. The two main factors that determine the performance of RAM, is the memory size which is measured in gigabytes and the speed. There are various fitments such as DDR, DDR2, DDR3, SDRAM and RIMM, which depend on the motherboards specification. Updated 01/06/11

SODIMM DDR - PC2100 - PC3200

SO-DIMMs are a smaller alternative to a DIMM, being roughly half the size of regular DIMMs. SO-DIMMS are often used in systems which have space restrictions such as notebooks, small footprint PCs such as those with a Mini-ITX motherboard and high-end upgradable office printers.
